So yeah - the jaundice numbers went from 12 to 14. UGH! Soooo frustrating. No one knows why. The pediatrician consulted with a hematologist today who recommended a few more blood tests for poor little George. So, we're headed back to the doc tomorrow to get some more blood drawn from George's foot. Then we'll know tomorrow night whether these other things could be the cause. They're checking for thyroid, spleen, and gallbladder problems, among other things. If everything there checks out, then they'll just continue to speculate that this is "breast milk jaundice." I read that 1 in 3 babies has jaundice just caused by breast milk. Our friend Mason has the same issue. Last week they went off breast milk for 24 hours to help break the jaundice issue. That would be our next step as well - 24 hours of formula to cleanse his system of breast milk. His number (14) is still well below troublesome (20), so we can even decide to wait and do that if/when the number gets closer to 20. In the meantime, more blood draws and more tests. We'll see how it goes.
A shout out to our buddy Mason today who endured a not so pleasant procedure like a true CHAMPION today!! I was very proud of him (and his mom) today.
Ohhh - and as I type this, George is sleeping IN HIS CRIB!! I will let you know tomorrow how that worked out through the night. Until then . . .
