The pediatrician called as I was on my way to dinner with the girls. The blood work all looks normal, which is GREAT news. So, next up - we try formula for 24 hours. This won't get rid of the jaundice. This hopefully will just confirm that it's "breast milk jaundice." So, starting with the first feeding of the morning - sometime between 6 - 8 am - I will switch George to formula for 24 hours. Then on Friday morning we'll head BACK to the pediatrician's office to test his levels again. They won't be gone, but if they do in fact drop a few points we'll know it was simply a breast milk thing and that's all. So, then I can switch back to breast milk and we'll just monitor things for a month or two until the number goes away. Today we were at 13 and change and we need to get to less than one.
Our friend Mason just went through the same thing and his number dropped to 9.something. So, if we can get under 10 I think I'll be happy. Sooooo . . . I've got the Enfamil powder in a bottle upstairs. I will add water in the morning and shake and voila - breakfast is served.
I hear babes get constipated on formula at first. That should be interesting. He'll be MORE uncomfortable with his grunting and pushing except this time, nothing will happen! Ohhh - poor George. At dinner tonight we nicknamed him "Jaundice George." My poor little man.
Did I mention today how cute he is?? LOVE him. ADORABLE!!
